30 Day Experiment Guitar

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a thirty day experiment. I’ve always tinkered with the idea of learning the piano. I tried really hard for about a month and a half in the spring of last year to acquire a keyboard, but all my opportunities fell through, and it was too big of a commitment to buy something I was only going to use for possibly a month.

I decided a guitar would be not only more convenient, but a lot easier to obtain. I have tons of friends who are musically inclined and several have multiple guitars. Ironically when I told my brother about it his response was “ya there’s one in the back of your closet.” So the guitar has been acquired and the project has commenced.

Method
I did a quick little bit of research and discovered a website that was super cheap and charged monthly called jamplay. The website has a long list of videos, forums, and diagrams. So far it’s given me what I need through the first few lessons.
My initial reaction is that guitar is really hard to learn. My fingers constantly hit other strings when I’m holding down chords and I can’t smoothly transition between them. It’s got a sharp learning curve to say the least. I’m committing about 30 minutes a day to practice as I often find practice very frustrating. Yesterday I actually made some decent progress and practiced about 45 minutes or so.

You know I can’t say now if I will stay with it or not. I think if I can see some significant progress then I’ll probably stick with it. Hopefully by the end of the month I can learn a song or two.
